“They will sell you thousands of greens. Veronese green and Emerald Green and Cadmium Green and any sort of Green you like, but that particular green, never” ( P. Picasso)
What colors make green?
How can I avoid unpleasant and muddy green mixings?
What kind of green do I really want to make?
Can we use green as a flower background?
How can I use vibrant greens in my landscape painting?
Is it possible to have a few color recipes for greens…..?
My answer to the last question is yes: the main subject of this workshop is color mixing but we will focus on how to make and mix different shades of green, one of the most complicated colors to mix: it has a powerful tendency to overwhelm a painting.
I have been teaching for more than two decades so this is one of the most frequent questions: “how can I improve my green mixing”? I think that green is the hue that is the most difficult to identify accurately and I think it is known as a difficult color to harmonize in a painting.
It’s important to understand the color wheel theory and color temperature so we can enhance depth just changing shades of green: if we plan ahead which color will be mixed with green we can avoid muddy mixings and we can connect green with another colors successfully.
I will paint two different flowers (Camellia and Wild Rose) and two different atmospheric countryside landscapes. I will show different green mixings, each painting will show a dominant shade of green.
We will talk about common color mixings mistakes in each painting and how to work with vibrant and appealing greens instead of flat and muddy color combinations.
For the first time also I will paint a Camellia, one of my favorite flowers.
So let's paint some luscious greens together?!
