This workshop is focused on understanding how the scale can capture and enhance the essence of a colorful mixed flower bouquet.
I am often asked: do you paint larger? What’s the maximum size or dimensions of your watercolors? My answer: yes, definitely yes! I paint watercolor even larger than a full sheet, but never during my workshops (online or in-person). It’s much easier to travel with half or quarter sheet so….this new online workshop will be unique: I will paint, for the first time, wet on wet floral bouquets on an imperial full sheet (30 x 22 inches or 76 x 56 cm).
This workshop is about stretching more and more the artist’s boundaries: I will keep on painting florals, wet on wet technique, without any preliminary sketch but this time on a different scale: I will use a larger watercolor sheet, a few bigger brushes, and a couple of different brush strokes and body movements: yes…painting bigger means moving our brushes with our whole body behind it.
What’s the difference between My Secret Garden 3 and 4? Both are about wet on wet florals but Chapter 3 is about individual flowers. Now we will paint mixed flower bouquets and there’s a huge difference between them: scale, size, and composition are quite different when we paint larger formats.
This workshop is also a new format course, with two sessions: The first one (3:30) will be a teaching session with all demos and explanations as usual. The second one (1:15) will be a review/critique session.
I have been teaching all over the world for the last 20 years. I believe that my mentorship experience can help you to realize your potential as an artist: my second session (critique session) will be developed to maximize your learning experience. I will demonstrate what could be improved in your paintings. It is a live session based on clearing questions.
After the first session (July 27), you will have two days to paint something. You can send one painting to me until July 29 (evening). On July 30, we will have another meeting. I will show you what can be improved in all participant's paintings. It is not only an individual critique: I will show you, best alternatives for your paintings (background, color mixing, composition) using my watercolor paper/ brushes and paints. You can also ask me questions about the whole painting process. I want to maximize my feedback.
You don't have to take part in the second session. You don’t have to paint anything. If you want you can just take part and watch my critique. It’s up to you.
You also don’t have to paint a full sheet watercolor, it’s up to you: you can paint in half sheet, no worries. Anyway...I think you will love to experience the freedom of painting loosely with bigger strokes!
