“There is simply the rose; it is perfect in every moment of its existence.”
R.W. Emerson
Welcome to the new episode of French Postcards. This time I will explore the small town of Chedigny (Indre et Loire), known for its Annual Rose Festival in May.
The workshop subject is how to paint roses in different ways: I want to talk about the flower anatomy, how to suggest the flower shape loosely, and how to draw the flower, stem, and thorns. We will also focus on climbing roses and the local atmosphere.
I want to describe different types of roses this time: wild roses, hybrid tea roses, the brilliant red strongly scented Victor Hugo rose, the stunning white Neige d’Avril, and the multi- petals English rose. Yes, for the first time, I will demonstrate the challenging English Rose!
I will also paint a climbing rose found in Chédigny, France: the climbing rose blooms tend to have one very heavy bloom in spring with many flowers so let’s talk about painting roses in a different scale as we will suggest many flowers altogether.
You are welcome to join my new artistic journey: let’s paint and depict this iconic flower. Roses have captivated artists over the years with their elegant blooms.
