“A painting is a series of corrected mistakes.”
R.Bisset
The unpredictable nature of watercolor is both challenging and sometimes frustrating. If we want to paint loosely and expressively, we need to learn how to take advantage of the mistakes that may happen during the painting process.
Anyway, mistakes are part of the learning process and we can learn from them, or take advantage of them so after so many inquiries, I decided to offer a workshop about common watercolor mistakes, how to avoid them, and how to rescue failed paintings.
We will talk about edge control, watercolor paper’s choice, brushes, connecting shapes, unity, dark mixings, backgrounds, the white of the paper, the amount of water involved in the painting process, the lifting out techniques, and color mixing. I want to review the basic concepts so we can understand what’s missing in the final painting.
A detailed explanation of the background, colors, mixing ratios, color temperature, and values is included in this workshop: I will talk about 36 color mixings for backgrounds so you will know that for a sunflower composition, for example, I can use the color combination number 26 ( Mountain Blue, Quinacridone Coral, and Burst Sienna). Understanding color mixing is the best way to avoid muddy colors.
I want to fix (or improve) a couple of failed watercolors for the first time online: I will use 4 or 5 failed paintings (from my in-person students) and with their permission, I will try to improve them. I want to show you how you can improve your artwork.
The final demonstration will be a flower composition with colorful pansies: it will be a step-by-step demo where we will identify together the part each of the concepts plays in making a successful painting.
