“Mistakes are the portals of discovery”.
J. Joyce
Welcome to the second part of Common Watercolor Mistakes and How to Solve Them! Now I want to explore the Landscapes and Doorways Failures, how to mix beautiful greens according to the season, and how to mix and develop colors for a fall landscape.
We will talk about edge control, watercolor paper’s choice, brushes, connecting shapes, unity, dark mixings, backgrounds, the white of the paper, the amount of water involved in the painting process, the lifting out techniques, and color mixing. I want to review the basic concepts so we can understand what’s missing in the final painting.
The first and the main demo will be different: I will paint multiple subjects in a half sheet, I want to demonstrate different doorways, flower pots, brush strokes for foliage, green connections, and how I use the sponge and the fan brush to suggest volume and depth. We will also talk about shadows, composition, and how to paint loose and fast. Each participant can paint along with me and everyone is welcome to send the multiple subjects paint to my email for individual feedback.
An explanation of the green mixing, colors, mixing ratios, color temperature, and values is included in this workshop: I will talk about 36 color mixings for greens: I will suggest mixing options for summer, spring, fall, and winter.
I want to fix (or improve) a couple of failed watercolors again: I will use 2 or 3 failed paintings (from my in-person students) and with their permission, I will try to improve them. I want to show you how you can improve your artwork.
The final demonstration will be a fall landscape: we will see together how we can avoid mistakes or take advantage of them.
