“Good composition is like a suspension bridge: each line adds strength and takes none away” R. Henri
What ‘s the main subject of this new workshop? Composition with an ephasis on how to connect shapes.
What can be more organic, irregular, asymmetrical and natural than a flower wreath with different flowers, leaves, colors and textures?
A flower wreath is an excellent subject to explain how to create a natural pattern in our watercolor compositions: any flower, leaf or stem is different but the process of linking and connecting them can create a cohesive composition.
I will demonstrate several flower wreaths and corners and show some of my preliminary drawings to all participants so we will understand all the shapes I addded to my compositions, including shapes made by negative spaces. I will “map" my compositions and explore what I call “a natural pattern” that is the foundation of my compositions.
A composition with fall leaves, small fowers and berries is also included in the first day.
If you don’t like flower wreaths and corners, no problem: the workshop is not about the wreath itself; it is about flowers and leaves painting, shapes connection, visual background bridges and compositional choices.
