“It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.” Confucious
Did you know that some of the paintings displayed below should be about another subject? I mean, it’s just an example. If you see a rose photo below, maybe I started painting a peony, but for different reasons, I changed my mind, and it turned into a rose painting.
I would not say it’s right or wrong (to change the subject during the painting process) but I am sure it can help you as an artist if you only look at the subject or reference as a starting point. The reference, in my painting process, is just a source of inspiration. I keep my mind open, so I can change colors, shapes, and composition, and, most important thing, I can improve my self-confidence as I know that If I make a mistake I can deviate and show my interpretation of the subject. It’s about never giving up, so my new workshop is focused on finding a way to solve some common problems in the middle of the painting process.
I will paint multiple flowers, and some of them will be sketched before or not. Some of them will be free interpretations, as will use the reference as a starting point and show different possibilities of interpretation. I do not want to mention how many flowers I will paint exactly as I want to offer a more interactive workshop this time so if necessary I can include new subjects if the participants want to see a detailed explanation about something in particular.
We will talk about subject interpretation, abstraction, fixing mistakes, lifting out techniques, and how to loosen up your painting style.
The cornucopia is associated with the goddess of the harvest, a fall icon in many countries, so my last demo will be a cornucopia filled with flowers and or vegetables, fruits, etc.
What is the connection between the first part of the workshop (multiple loose flowers) and the last demo (the cornucopia)? I want to paint a loose cornucopia and suggest some shapes rather than adding too many details (another mistake we avoid when we paint fast and use the reference as a source of inspiration only).
