“If people did not love one another, I really don’t see what use there would be in having any spring” V. Hugo
Welcome to the new episode of French Postcards. This time I will explore Spring time in Normandy, France!
Spring is the season during which the natural world revives and revigorates after the colder winter times: there are many blossoming trees. Magnolias and their wonderful scent, and cherry blossoms are all around.
The Spring landscape is also different: there’s stronger sunlight, the temperature begins to rise and the days grow longer and longer. Shades of green are everywhere.
My new workshop is focused on Japanese Magnolias, Cherry Blossoms, and Landscapes. I want to depict the spring colors and light.
I will talk about the Magnolia shape and colors. We will draw together the flower shape, set the best color mixings, and insert the flower shape in the landscape: I want to paint a landscape with Magnolias in the foreground.
I will also explain the Cherry Blossom shape and colors, and how to mix salmon and pink colors to suggest a vibrant and appealing flower. The Cherry Blossom flowers are not so easy to paint as they blossom in groups, a lot of them come from the same bud so let’s understand together how to depict it.
A small landscape demo is included: let’s paint one of my photos taken in Normandy, France. I spent Spring in France many times so I would love to share my memories with you.
