“Auvers is seriously beautiful ”(Van Gogh’s letters to his brother Theo)
My new workshop is focused on exploring Auvers-Sur- Oise, where Van Gogh spent his last 70 days and painted almost 80 works.
During the 19th century, a number of impressionist painters including Paul Cézanne, Charles -François Daubigny, Camille Pissarro, Camille Corot, and Vincent Van Gogh lived in Auvers-Sur Oise, a beautiful and charming small village about one hour train outside of Paris.
I have been to Auvers-Sur- Oise many times, it’s a source of inspiration for any artist: the small village and its surrounding countryside inspired some of his most celebrated paintings. The light is amazing, the flowers are gorgeous, and there’s some impressionist vibe everywhere.
This time I want to paint flowers and buildings from Auvers: I will choose two different buildings with light/shadow effects. One of them will be a side view so I will include a quick explanation about perspective, drawing, and composition.
As I will explore Van Gogh's stay in Auvers, I want to include a sunflower demonstration as the main demo of this workshop: of course, we won’t paint like Van Gogh, it’s not the workshop's purpose but did you know that he painted 7 Sunflowers paintings in his life? There are different color combinations in each painting (background/vase/flowers) and there was a reason for that so I would like to explore Van Gogh’s colors in my Sunflower demo.
I also want to share my photos this time: I took nearly one thousand photos in Auvers-Sur- Oise last month so each participant will receive a web link. If you want, you are welcome to visit that link and download my photos (I want to upload 30-35 photos from Auvers).
This workshop is different, it’s about what inspired a great artist like Van Gogh. Every time I visit Auvers I feel Van Gogh’s presence so let's step together into Van Gogh's world?!
