“If it’s light, leave it white” (R.R. Dvorak)
- Do you know how to save or restore the white of the paper?
- How do you choose the shadow color?
- Do you know how to create the shadow colors using color theory?
- Have you ever tried to make your neutrals or grays?
- How can we work and connect white spaces in watercolor?
- Do you know how to paint shadows on white flowers and white vases?
- Can we suggest a shade of gray if we lift out the pigment?
My new workshop is focused on working with the white of the paper and how to create sparkling whites through the loose and intuitive painting process.
We will depict the neutrals or what I call colorful grays as they play an important role when we want to paint white shapes: good neutrals become part of the scene, without dark tones and areas of shade, the light parts of a composition will not stand out.
I explored the metallic surfaces and shiny surfaces in my last workshop so now it’s time to talk about white porcelain vases or jars: I will demonstrate how to work with the vase edges, light, and volume.
All participants will receive a color chart with some neutral mixing options for foreground or background so you can use my color mixing options to enhance your painting.
Flowers included in this workshop: white foxgloves, white hollyhocks, white roses, white and purple hydrangeas, and white anemones.
This workshop is about flower painting, still life composition, white shapes in watercolor, color mixing, shadows, mixing neutrals, background work, and lifting out techniques.
