“Are we to paint what’s on the face, what’s inside the face, or what’s behind it?” P. Picasso
Spring is coming so my new workshop is focused on painting clear and colored glass vases with different flower arrangements.
I want to explore how to paint a clear vase with water using different light sources. The white of the paper will be crucial here as we will use it for the brightest white highlights.
I will also paint a colored glass vases: we will check together, for the first time, how the local color will influence the colored reflections and how much we can see through the glass. It’s a tricky subject, we need to paint the colored glass but we also need to see what is below the glass surface.
We will use the color wheel to mix different flowers in the same arrangement. I want to include an explanation about color connection and the best compositional choices for flowers and transparent vases.
What else? I want to paint a challenging demo in this workshop: I will paint a wet-on-wet translucent glass vase (colored or clear) without any drawing (or just the vase sketch). The painting process will be mainly the lifting out technique.
This workshop is about wet-on-wet painting, clear glass vases, transparent colored glass vases, translucent vases, loose florals, color mixing, color combination, and lifting out techniques.
Flowers included in this workshop: Daffodils, Poppies, Tulips, Lilac, Roses and Wild Small Flowers.
