“Purple is my favorite color. It makes me think of spring and summer. A purple wisteria, eating grapes, lilacs - I love purple.” A. Yee
My new workshop is focused on Wisteria: I want to explore different scales, colors, and compositional choices. I will paint the individual flower (a close-up approach), two different hanging wisteria clusters (different colors), and a composition with windows and wisteria.
The Wisteria is notable for its clusters or groups of fragrant purple-lilac flowers. It blooms in spring and it looks spectacular hanging from a pergola, an archway, or close to any pathway or window.
The flowers are beautifully fragrant, providing a feast for the senses. If we take a look at the individual flowers they look like an orchid or a sweet pea bloom so the wisteria itself is an excellent subject to talk about flowers and composition.
I will also explore the wisteria drawing: I will talk about the wisteria shape and how much drawing is necessary to represent the flower so a brief explanation about drawing is included in this workshop.
I want to share my best color mixings for purple so all participants will receive my wisteria color charts.
We will also visit, virtually, Paris, as I want to paint the wisteria at the façade of Au Vieux Paris d’Arcole, one of the most charming cafes in Paris!
