Is it difficult for you to keep white space untouched in your watercolor paintings? 
Have you ever worked with a limited palette?

Yes, losing the paper's white and over-mixing too many pigments can be a nightmare for watercolor artists. My new workshop centers on successfully preserving unpainted areas and working with a limited palette to create an amazing harmony in your painting.

Next, let's consider an essential question: how can we paint white shapes in watercolor? 

There are two main approaches: either work around the shape using background colors and add subtle shadows to the object itself, or quickly lift out pigment to recover the paper's white. In both, controlling the transition from foreground to background for soft, diffused edges is essential.

During this workshop, I will limit my palette to 6-7 colors and aim to create as many color combinations as possible.

The first demonstration will feature a single white flower, using a value scale. We will explore adding different shades of white to create luminous highlights and subtle shadows. For this subject, either a white daffodil (a symbol of spring) or a white water lily will be painted.

Lighthouses symbolize a light in the darkness, showing the way, so the second and main demo will focus on painting a white lighthouse. Using the background as negative space, we will shape the white lighthouse to create a high-contrast, dramatic, and moody effect.

The third demonstration will feature a white boat reflection, inspired by a reference from Hobart Port (Tasmania). This exercise will show how to simplify the background to define the white boat's form.

The fourth demonstration will focus on a white building with architectural elements, greenery, and flowers. We will learn how to paint believable shadows on a white wall, choose and mix colors correctly, and use the right water-to-pigment ratio. 

This is a brand-new workshop focused on working with a limited palette, preserving the paper white, painting white shapes, using lifting techniques, and working with negative space to suggest light and shadow.

This workshop is a two-day format: the second day will be a mentoring session. You can send one painting to my email from February 24 (by morning) to 27. I will address your questions and provide feedback on your paintings on February 27 (the second session).

If you withdraw from the workshop 7 (seven) days before the first session and ask for a refund, a 60% refund will be issued. No refunds can be given for withdrawals made within 7 days of the first session.
If you withdraw from the workshop 7 (seven) days before the first session and decide to attend a future workshop, your payment can be fully transferred to one of my future workshops. You just need to email me and ask for a payment transfer.
