"The impressionism is the newspaper of the soul” Henri Matisse
One of the world’s most beautiful gardens, Claude Monet’s Garden, in Giverny, France is still the main subject of my new workshop.
During my last visit to Giverny, last month, I spent a couple of days in Vernon, France, and could visit Giverny many times. I immersed myself in Monet’s Garden and took thousands of photos, it’s a breathtaking place for any visual artist!
Now I want to offer a different experience to all participants: I will show what I consider the 7 keys to a loose and expressive floral painting: I will demonstrate seven different exercises, and every participant will be encouraged to paint them along with me. After the first session, all participants can send the exercises to me and they will receive my feedback by email.
After the 7 keys exercise, I will demonstrate 4 flowers and connect the 7 exercises with my demos. Here are the flowers included in the first session (we will choose 4 flowers): Achillea Moonshine, Lupinus, Allium Flower, Red Hot Poker, The White Rosa Moschata, Red Geranium, and Oriental Poppy.
We will discover, together, step by step, how to simplify every flower, use bold and vibrant color mixings, enhance the background, break the edges, work with a limited palette, add colorful shadows, and how live up the floral painting!
I have been to Giverny many times, it’s part of my background as a watercolor artist, the garden’s colors and diversity have strongly influenced my approach to loose and spontaneous florals so I‘d love to share with you my experience one more time!
Unfortunately, this workshop won’t be repeated (also the 7 keys will be demonstrated only during this workshop) and it’s the last workshop about my trip to Giverny.
