"Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower." Albert Camus
As fall approaches, nature will soon display its most beautiful and rich colors. This season, my favorite of all, offers the perfect opportunity to capture this stunning transformation. My new workshop will focus on portraying new subjects, emphasizing the unique mood and vibrant colors of the upcoming fall season.
The fruits of the oak trees and the maple leaves are widely recognized as symbols of autumn, they evoke the beauty of nature’s transition so my first demo will be about representing their distinctive shapes and warm, earthy colors—from the deep reds and oranges of maple leaves to the rich browns of acorns. I want to mix them in only one composition, exploring the leaves colors, shapes and textures.
The countryside barns hold a special place in my memories of traveling across the USA and Canada. I'd love to paint them, especially bathed in fall colors. Their characteristic shapes are remarkable, so my second demo will try to capture those buildings within the broader fall landscape. We will talk about the barns shapes, textures and perspective and how to capture the fall mood using the right colors.
My next painting demonstration will focus on an urban landscape featuring a white church building in downtown Manchester, Vermont. This particular building is a beloved spot for capturing the essence of autumn, as it's beautifully framed by the vibrant colors of peak fall foliage.
The stark white of the building, set against the fiery reds, oranges, and yellows of the surrounding trees, presents a perfect opportunity to discuss the concept of negative space. I'll demonstrate how the sky and the spaces between the leaves and branches can define and enhance the focal point of the painting – the white building itself. This approach not only adds depth and dimension but also allows the autumn colors to truly pop.
Join my brand new painting adventure: we will dive deep into the breathtaking world of fall colors!
