“One compositional element suggests and asks for another. This is what makes the activity interesting” R.Genn
My new workshop is focused on exploring the possibilities of the middle ground and how to connect shapes successfully working with the degree of light and dark.
I will explore the tonal transitions between foreground and background, connecting all planes using a value change or connecting elements: it’s about enhancing the background, exploring edges, using the white of the paper, and taking advantage of the visual bridges that connect the whole composition.
I want to paint the sweet pea in different compositions and colors: in my opinion, it’s the most complex flower to paint.
The sweet pea flowers look like butterflies or orchids but when we look at them from a different angle, they look like abstract shapes so they are perfect to illustrate my workshop about middle tones, connections, and middle ground.
All participants will be encouraged to send two paintings to my mentoring session: a monochromatic and a colorful version. I will reply (by email) to each participant about the monochromatic version and give my opinion about what can be improved to enhance the middle ground and the middle values. It’s an extra exercise to clear all questions about middle values and how to work with the middle ground.
The last demo will be a flower arrangement of sweet peas in a clear vase so we have one more chance to paint a glass vase.
This workshop was planned to clear a frequent question in my workshops: it’s about helping you with the painting background and how to avoid a too-dark or too-light middle ground and/or background so..come and join this unique painting adventure! As usual, this workshop won’t be repeated.
