“The arrival of spring can’t be done in one picture” D. Hockney
Flowers are waking up, Spring is coming quickly so it’s time to explore my main subject: flowers and how to create harmonious flower arrangements.
This time I will paint several small flower arrangements or small bunchs of flowers: I will use different flowers with different shapes, colors, and textures.
Harmony is about creating a feeling of cohesion, it’s about using complementary colors and shapes to ensure that all the elements of the composition fit together to create an appealing painting
I will talk about the principles of floral composition (harmony is one of them) and we will understand, together, how to use them to enhance the painting composition.
I want to demonstrate how I plan my flower arrangement choosing the largest blooms to enhance the focal point and how I combine smaller flowers to create clustering, similar to what happens in nature.
Which flowers are included in this workshop? Flowers that bloom in Spring: Daffodils, Tulips, Hyacinths, Roses, Peonies, Primroses, Sweet Alyssum, Lily of the Valley, Anemones, or Poppies. More flowers and greens can be included (eucalyptus branches, flower foliage, geranium leaves, etc)
This workshop is about wet-on-wet painting, compositional choices, loose florals, color mixing, color combination, lifting out technique, and background and foreground connection.
